ABOUT 2DRY FM
2DRY FM is a multi-award-winning community radio station established in 1989, serving Broken Hill and Menindee in the Far West NSW. We amplify community voices, tell local stories and highlight local issues.
2DRY FM covers a diverse range of music, sports, arts, youth issues and politics through programs created by local volunteers of all ages. We also showcase special dates in the calendar such as NAIDOC Week and Disability Awareness Day and community events such as the Broken Heel Festival with live outside broadcasts.
We run formal training programs for aspiring radio presenters across the year and offer informal mentoring outside of these to support volunteers in launching and developing their programs. Our volunteers are diverse with a range of skills and abilities mirroring the community we live in. We celebrate diversity and provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive team environment.
2DRY FM is an integral part of the local community and we are proud to have won the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia’s national award for Best Community Engagement in 2023! All of these achievements have supported us to secure grant funding for further station development.
STATION MANAGER ROLE
This role is extremely interesting and diverse with no two days being the same and requires an energetic and community-minded person with the ability to handle a range of different tasks. The role is both autonomous and collaborative and will include community outreach, volunteer coordination, grants, revenue growth, governance and project management.
Working under the support and guidance of a passionate and long-serving Board, core activities include:
- Building and maintaining relationships with key community stakeholders and groups.
- Supporting volunteers.
- Identifying and applying for grants then managing projects, budgets and acquittals.
- Station compliance with the licencing terms and legislation.
- Sourcing new sponsors, coordinating productions and managing sponsor relationships.
- Building and engaging with the membership base.
- Marketing & communications including social media and the website, reporting etc.
- Board reporting and working collaboratively to achieve the strategic plan.
- Ad hoc duties.
- Other tasks as directed from the Board from time to time.
You will bring:
- Great communication and interpersonal skills with a genuine passion and energy for community development, diversity and relationship building. If you have worked for a not-for-profit community organisation that’s a bonus.
- Excellent general business and administration skills to be able to put together compelling communications strategies, write policies, manage grants and budgets, develop marketing content etc.
- Good problem-solving skills and adaptability to handle unexpected priorities with flexibility as the core hours will be Monday to Friday but there will be requirements for weekend and evening work to support special events and activities.
- If you have experience in radio or media production that’s a plus, however, we can support you with internal training and we have a team of radio experts on hand to support our volunteers.
The hours will be 22.5 a week minimum with extra hours to deliver grant-funded projects. 2DRY FM offers a range of professional development opportunities via an excellent training program delivered by the Community Media Training Organisation.

Salary Package/Benefits:
Minimum $30 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications of applicant) + 11% superannuation
Hours/Days:
Minimum 22.5 hours per week. Some weekend and evening work is required for events, volunteer support and meetings. Flexible to work additional hours to deliver projects funded by grants.
Role Summary
2DRY FM is an award-winning community radio station in Far West NSW, Broken Hill & Menindee. Since the employment of a Station Manager in 2022, the station has grown considerably and is an exciting place to create Australian radio. We cover a diverse range of music, sports, arts, youth issues, and politics as well as cover community events with outside broadcasts. We service a diverse range of community members including the remote outback town of Menindee, and our volunteers have a broad range of skills and abilities. As 2DRY FM’s Station Manager you will continue this exciting work with our volunteer base to progress all aspects of a growing community radio station.
Responsibilities
Manage operations and growth of the station and collaborate with the Board to achieve the strategic plan.
Radio Production:
- Supporting diverse programming for the local community.
- Identifying opportunities to deliver new programming.
- Supporting volunteers in their journey of growth in radio production.
- Ensuring production compliance with the licence and legislation.
Grants:
- Identify new grant opportunities and submit applications.
- Manage projects, budgets and acquittals.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements.
Community Engagement:
- Grow station membership.
- Build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders and groups.
- Coordinate events and community outreach activities.
Sponsorship:
- Source new sponsors and manage sponsorship relationships.
- Oversee and coordinate the production of sponsorship announcements.
- Ensure the timely delivery of sponsorship commitments.
Volunteers:
- Support volunteers.
- Source structured training programs for youth and adults.
- Facilitate volunteer involvement in programming.
Station Governance, Compliance, and Policies:
- Help develop and maintain compliance with station policies.
- Address complaints and breaches.
- Maintain compliance with legal and regulatory requirements including the licence conditions.
- Identify gaps and risks and draft policies for Board approval.
Station Communications:
- Manage social media and the website.
- Prepare reports for sponsors and the board.
- Promote the station to the community through different media channels.
Fundraising:
- Develop and implement fundraising initiatives.
Station Facilities and Broadcast Equipment:
- Reporting/coordinating maintenance requirements for facilities and equipment
Financial Compliance:
- Tracking expenditures under grants
Projects:
Overseeing projects, including projects in progress such as a studio upgrade and content development for Menindee
Board:
- Collaborate with the Board and contribute to strategic planning and governance.
